When it came time to give the barn a facelift, we didn't want a sign we bought online. We wanted something that actually meant something, made by someone from here.
Crystalle Mercedes, a Michigan artist, spent days out on a ladder in the sun turning a plain red wall into the mural you see today. It's grown into the spot everyone stops for a photo, and every bit of it was painted by hand.
The whole panel got a base coat, rolled on by hand.
Freehand, no stencils, climbing across the panel.
Coat after coat, until the red really popped.
No vinyl. Drawn on with a paint marker, letter by letter.
Edges and details, up on a ladder.
Now the first thing people photograph when they pull in.
