A Brief History

Thirty years in the making.

The Triumph apple comes from the University of Minnesota, the same breeding program behind Honeycrisp. It's a cross of Honeycrisp and Liberty, bred for the crunch of one and the toughness of the other.

From that first cross to the apple finally reaching growers took over three decades of testing. We're excited to be one of the first orchards in Michigan carrying it.

1990Honeycrisp and Liberty are crossed at the University of Minnesota's research orchard.
2004The seedling that would become Triumph is selected out of thousands for further testing.
2021Triumph is officially named and released to growers after more than 20 years of trials.

Sweet with a bite

Pleasantly tart with a good balance of sweetness, not as sugary as Honeycrisp but every bit as crisp.

Tough and disease-resistant

Inherits Liberty's excellent resistance to apple scab, one of the toughest apples we grow.

Ready mid to late fall

Harvests around the same time as Honeycrisp, sometimes just a bit later.

Keeps for months

Stores exceptionally well, so a bag bought in October can still taste great well into winter.
