Crystalle Izzo and a helper celebrating in front of the finished MacIntosh Orchards mural
Painted by Crystalle Izzo

The story behind the mural.

A local Michigan artist, a barn wall, and a lot of red and green paint. Here's how it came together.

Meet the Artist

Crystalle Izzo

When it came time to give the barn a facelift, we didn't want a sign we bought online. We wanted something that actually meant something, made by someone from here.

Crystalle Izzo, a Michigan artist, spent days out on a ladder in the sun turning a plain red wall into the mural you see today. It's grown into the spot everyone stops for a photo, and every bit of it was painted by hand.

How It Came Together

From plain red wall to the spot everyone stops for.

Rolling the first coat of green paint onto the barn wall
01.

A plain wall and a lot of green paint.

The whole panel got a base coat, rolled on by hand.

Hand-painted green vine pattern taking shape on the barn wall
02.

The vines come first.

No stencils, just VR glasses to trace the outlines before the paint went on.

Then the apples show up.

Coat after coat, until the red really popped.

Hand lettering the MacIntosh Orchards sign onto the mural with a paint marker
04.

Even the lettering was hand-drawn.

No vinyl. Drawn on with a paint marker, letter by letter.

Finishing touches being added to the mural from a ladder
05.

A few finishing touches.

Edges and details, up on a ladder.
